Why Choose Gravel or Shingle for Your Driveway?
Thanks to its many benefits, gravel and shingle have been some of the most popular driveway materials for decades.
1. Inexpensive
Gravel and shingle are some of the most affordable driveway materials available. The process of installing a gravel driveway is also relatively simple, reducing the price of construction.
2. Easy to Install
Gravel or shingle driveways are exceptionally quick and easy to install.
When installing your gravel driveway, we lay a sub-base layer, tip the gravel directly onto it, and smooth it over for an even look. Depending on the size of your drive, this should only take a few hours.
3. Permeable
Unlike other driveway materials, gravel and shingle are fully permeable. They drain rainwater and let it soak into the ground underneath it, preventing flooding.
4. Long-Lasting
Aside from occasional raking, gravel and shingle are very low maintenance. A gravel driveway usually lasts three decades or more.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gravel and Shingle Driveways
What kind of gravel or shingle is best for a driveway?
Because it will be under a lot of traffic, the gravel used in driveways should consist of hard-wearing stones like basalt, flint, granite, and quartz. These stones also hide dirt and make for an attractive garden feature.
Do you install gravel and shingle driveways with paver edging?
Depending on your preference, we can install your gravel driveway with or without paver edging.
We especially recommend installing paver edging if your driveway is on a slope, as it helps keep the stones from shifting with gravity.
Can you lay a gravel or shingle driveway without a sub-base?
Gravel or shingle can be spread directly onto soil, but this is not recommended. The sub-base spreads the weight of traffic from above, preventing rutting, potholing, and the sinking of gravel into the soil. Without one, your driveway will deteriorate much more quickly.
When we install your gravel driveway, we will dig and lay a sub-base at least 100-150mm deep, ensuring your gravel has a solid base to stand on. This will make it last for decades to come.
How much does a gravel or shingle driveway cost to install?
The specific cost of installing a gravel driveway depends on its size and dimensions. However, it usually costs less than other driveway materials.
