A resident in Swanage, Mrs Toms, recently contacted us enquiring about a new blocked paving driveway for her property. She was working with a landscaper, who was helping her design and create an outdoor area that would be aesthetically pleasing. She had reached out to us with an idea in mind and asked us to execute it.

About the Project

The client was looking to replace her existing concrete driveway with an aesthetically pleasing one to match a landscaped garden.

The process started with our team visiting the property to complete a survey of the area to determine the shape and size of the driveway so that we were able to plan our installation for an efficient and smooth process.

With a plan of action for the 64m² driveway, we arranged a date with Mrs Toms to start work.

The first step was to excavate the current driveway, removing all the concrete.

We then lay a subbase layer of crushed limestone as the foundation of the new driveway. In doing this, we ensured proper grading and compaction of the material to provide a stable base for the paving surface.

With the subbase in place, we installed concrete curbs along the perimeter of the driveway to provide steady edge restraints. This offers structural support and defines the boundaries of the driveway, separating the driveway from the landscaped garden and enhancing aesthetic appeal and longevity.

We wanted to ensure that the driveway would drain efficiently, so we strategically incorporated channel drainage systems to manage surface water runoff and prevent waterlogging.

Around the plant bed along the edge of the driveway, we installed Hi-Kerbs to provide higher levels of edge restraint. Similar to the concrete curbs, these enhance the look of the driveway as they create distinct boundaries between the driveway and plant bed in a cohesive manner.

With all the edges in place, we were able to start the installation of the block paving itself. Our installation team meticulously laid Brett Omega block paving in Charcoal around the perimeter of the driveway. This was chosen to create a visually striking contrast with the middle, clearly defining the shape and edge of the driveway.

The middle of the driveway was laid using Brindle, chosen for its versatility, durability, and aesthetic appeal.

While laying the paving blocks, our team used extreme precision to ensure uniformity, symmetry and optimal interlocking of the paving blocks. This accuracy was critical to achieving a refined and pleasing look for our client.
