Mrs Fuller, a resident of Moordown, Bournemouth, recently approached Fletchamoore looking to enhance her front garden with block paving.
Originally, her front garden was filled with overgrown vegetation and only had a small drive to walk on. Block paving would open up her entranceway, clearing and making better use of the outdoor space she had available.
About the project
We began by clearing away vegetation and removing old stonework in Mrs Fuller’s 52m² garden, leaving us with a blank space to worth with.
Next, we laid a subbase of crushed limestone over the garden. This allowed the load of the paving to be evenly spread over the subgrade below. It also created a solid layer resistant to rutting and channelisation.
Then came the laying of the blocks. We used Brett’s Beta TRIO blocks in ‘Silver Haze’ colour for a stylish, modern look, and applied kiln-dried sand as an infill.
While laying the blocks, we incorporated inset inspection covers, polychannels, and soakaways to allow for effective drainage. We laid concrete kerbs around the paving for a professionally finished appearance.
The Finished Garden and Driveway
The end result was a tidy, attractive front garden with plenty of space to spread out. You can see how much bigger the garden looks with all the light-blocking vegetation cleared out!
The different-sized paving added an understated visual interest, with their grey colour contrasting nicely against the red brick of the house and walls. Paving the whole garden created a better sense of consistency and made the space look more neatly put together.
