Keen to gain more usable space, Mrs Francis-Lawrence, a resident of Dorchester, approached Fletchamoore to create an attractive, functional patio in the back garden.
By creating a high-end area of patio, whilst also leaving plenty of grass, Fletchamoore designed a space that allows Mrs Francis-Lawrence to enjoy the best of both worlds on her residential property. We also focused on improving drainage, reducing problems associated with waterlogging.
About the project
We began by clearing and priming the space, removing vegetation, debris and detritus from the area. In total, we prepared a space of 70 m² for the patio.
With the area prepped, we set about organising for the first stage of laying the patio. Using a limestone sub base, selected for its strong load-bearing properties, we created a firm foundation to ensure the longevity of the finished project.
We also installed an Aquacell crate soakaway, designed to store excess rainwater. It will allow water to gradually seep into the ground without causing oversaturation.
The next stage of the project was to lay the paving slabs. This project utilised Spectrum Porcelain Slabs in ‘Burlington Rust’; these high-sheen flagstones create a quality wet-look finish, artfully combining the characteristics of slate and porcelain to create an attractive, hardwearing patio.
The slabs were laid on a full mortar bed and the joints sealed with Easy Joint Compound.
The Finished Patio Area
The finished patio has greatly improved both the usability and functionality of this residential garden, creating a quality patio area that will help improve enjoyment of the space throughout the year.
As well as the main patio area, we also created a matching flagstone path along the side of the house. This path gives direct access from the front of the house to the back garden and results in a cohesive feel throughout the property.
